Bola Tinubu Speaks on the State of Nigeria's Economy

National Leader of Nigeria's ruling party, Bola Tinubu, has expressed his view about the state of the nation's economy. If you ask me to describe the state of the nation, I would say it is a difficult but encouraging one, we are emerging from a period of great moral uncertainty where vice and virtue were too often indistinguishable and too often confused, one for the other.” Tinubu said.

He expressed optimism that despite the 16 years of hopelessness foisted on the country by the previous regimes, there was still hope for Nigeria, adding that the best way to rid the country of the mess was by restructuring both politically and economically.

Even though the nation before stood half in the light of progress and half in the darkness of injustice, there is much hope because we now have a government committed to a new era of discipline and prosperity. The journey we have embarked upon will not be easy. It requires us all to make sacrifices and persevere until we achieve.

Nigeria needs some fundamental restructuring both politically and economically. Not the constant tinkering and patch-patch we often resort to. We must therefore begin with fundamentally restructuring the economy if we are to rid ourselves of joblessness

Nigeria stands in the corridor between greatness and failure, progress and collapse, hope and despair. Our fate depends on whether we summon the courage to take the bold steps and move in the direction. We must turn our present challenges into opportunities for the re-engineering of our nation’s economic challenges. The university and our educational system have a role to play here”, Tinubu stated.

3 Major Reasons Why the Naira is Appreciating Against the Dollar

The recent rise of the naira in the parallel market against the dollar has been traced to three possible factors. For the past seven days the naira had seen a major appreciation in its value against the dollar and other currencies
Nigeria's local currency a fortnight ago was very weak against the dollar, exchanging above N400 per dollar, the worst level it has ever gotten in history.

However, the naira has been appreciating recently and it all boils down to these three main reasons:

1. Government's stance on Devaluation

The Muhammadu Buhari government has refused to devalue the naira, despite calls for devaluation from several local and foreign bodies. The Naira staged a major comeback after President Buhari reiterated his stance against devaluation a week ago.

2. Dollar demand is easing

Another reason the naira is appreciating is because the demand for dollar in the country is easing up. Several organizations are starting to look inwards for raw materials and less people are buying dollars in panic. The rush for dollar has ebbed as traders now convinced there won't be a devaluation in the coming weeks. As a result those hoarding the currency are now selling.

3. BDCs are cooperating with the Central Bank of Nigeria:

It's not guaranteed the currency will appreciate back to its 197/$ 'CBN' rate in the coming weeks as negativity still persists. However, the general feeling is positive and the outlook seems fair as there are reports that the Bureau De Change operators have been complying with the financial directives of the apex bank in Nigeria.

My Role in Abducted of Ese Oruru - Emir Sanusi Speaks

The Emir if Kano has reacted to claims that he aided the purported abduction of Ese Oruru by one Yunusa.  Addressing a Press Conference in Kano on Monday, the Emir said, ''Since September last year, the district head of Kura came to palace with a young girl of about 15 years, alongside with somebody from the area, whom we were told was married to him after she was converted to Islam.

I ordered for her immediate repatriation to her parents who were said to be in Bayelsa state. I ordered the Kano State Shariah commission to liaise with the assistant inspector general (AIG) zone 1 to assist in taking her back to her parents in Bayelsa, through the AIG who oversees Bayelsa axis, for her safety. In Islam, she has no right to just go ahead and decide things for herself. She is still young. She is not matured enough. And there is nowhere in Islam where such young girls can just make up their mind and give their hands in marriage just like that.

It is not permitted in Islam. That is why we said she must be taken back to her parents. To my utter surprise, since from the time we ordered that the girl be taken to her parents in Bayelsa through AIG Zone 1 office, we didn’t hear anything about her. Just for us to now start hearing all kinds of stories that we are keeping her in our custody. This is injustice of the highest order.”

I am therefore giving an order that an investigation should immediately commence with the AIG office to know the position of things since that time we ordered for her repatriation to her parents. We cannot in anyway be more Muslims than the Prophet of Islam Muhammad, Peace Be Upon Him. We must therefore do things according to the set rules and regulations governing our religion.”he said
